Homecoming 2009

This past weekend was Homecoming here at Bitburg High School. I don't know about you, but homecoming brings back memories of Spirit Week, football game, hot chocolate, pep rally and of course the big dance. It definitely was a different experience experiencing homecoming as a parent instead of a student. Leading up to homecoming I asked Alex if he would like to go to the dance. Here is his response: "I want to go to the dance, because if we win the game, we will be like famous at the dance." Isn't that such a boy for you. The week leading up to homecoming they had Spirit Week, where each day they dressed up in different ways. Alex only participated in the cool stuff. On Friday, the kids were off from school, but Alex still had football practice. The Coach said to them: "Of course we are having practice. Without us there wouldn't even be homecoming." After their practice, there was a burger burn and a powder puff football game. It was supposed to be flag football, but those girls sure took it seriously. They were tackling each other for the ball. One girl sprained her wrist and another dislocated her shoulder. We were entertained at half time by boy cheerleaders, which was hilarious. Then it was on to the pep rally. It was crazy in there. There were games and yelling and all kinds of stuff.

On Saturday was the big game. Only for my boy would I sit out in the cold on a Saturday morning. It was awesome watching him play. He had three good tackles. They even announced his tackle from the press box. The JV ended up winning 36 to 0. It got even more exciting when Alex got to play in the Varsity game for a little bit. Marty got it all on tape so I am sure we will watch all of Alex's greatest "hits". (A special thanks to all of our friends who came out to support Alex and the team.)

Alex went to the dance that night. He looked so handsome. It's amazing how nice the boy can look when he gets a haircut, shaves off his scruff, and puts on some nice clothes.

Marty drove him there in a friend's Mini Cooper. He asked Marty to rev the engine when he dropped him off. He said he had a good time hanging out. I think his first homecoming was definitely a memorable experience.
